We’ve been working hard to decorate the Wingnut for the Memorial Day Party in Memory of People Murdered by the Sate, and also just to get painting projects done that we couldn’t do this winter when the paint wouldn’t dry. Here are some pictures of the things we’ve been up to:

We are working on a new mural for the Memorial Day Party here at the Wingnut.
If you want to come help us paint, we are having a workday on Saturday May 7th from 10am til dark. Stop on by at any point to help paint.
This year we have an awesome montage of anarchist raccoons drawn by the talented Kayla Dean Dickey.
We are painting it on the panels of porch railing we made.

We painted this mural on the front of the Wingnut in time for Memorial Day and our cookout. Now we are finally getting around to posting a picture of it that our friend Andrew Phinney took. About 10 of us, Wingnuts and friends, worked on the mural together. Some ideas came from people in the neighborhood and some came from us. We have gotten a lot of positive responses from everyone in the neighborhood with the exception of yuppies. Many people appreciate the anti-cop message and we have heard many stories of local folks or their loved ones being harassed, abused, and even killed by the police. This is an issue that really resonates with people in our area. On the other hand, many yuppies are upset that we ‘ruined’ our nice house. Thats ok. We are actually kind of stoked that our mural speaks to so many people while also perhaps serving as a deterrent to gentrifiers.

As you may have heard, the Wingnut is having a cookout/potluck party on Memorial Day. But we do not want to celebrate a typical memorial day.
What we want to do with this event is make it a Memorial Party for people who have been murdered by the State. We will try to come up with a list of names of folks who have been killed in the US by the FBI, Police, etc. We can use your help compiling this list.
Two possible options: That we will paint a mural with a list of those names during the open house, or that we will just unveil the mural at the party. Let us know what you think would be appropriate/make sense etc.
Here is one example of a person murdered by the State: (more…)
